Another enduring innovation was 1961’s Chime Bear which remained in production until the end of the 1960s. Measuring 9 inches high, this essentially simple design was intended as a cot toy and consisted of a teddy head on top of a cylindrical tube, with arms sewn on either side. Inside the tube, encased in wadding, was a musical chime. Made from nylon plush, Chime Bear was initially available in just the traditional baby colours of blue or pink but by 1962, when it had been joined by Chime Rabbit and Chime Cat, it came in assorted pastel colours.
